Bill Would Require Medicaid Program + Private Insurers to Cover Abortion in Maine

A bill previously agreed to in the House and backed by Governor Janet Mills passed in the Senate (May 14) Tuesday. It will force Maine’s medicaid program and also private insurers to cover abortion.

According to WABI, the bill would mandate DHHS to cover the cost of abortions on MaineCare. It would also require private insurance carriers already providing prenatal coverage to ensure coverage for abortion care.
