Maine to Drop Columbus Day and Will Celebrate Indigenous People’s Day

Maine Gov. Janet Mills (April 26, 2019) has signed a bill that will establish a new official state holiday.

The new Indigenous Peoples’ Day will replace Columbus Day, every year on the first Monday of October.

According to WCSH, Maine joins other states making the change, including: Vermont, New Mexico, Alaska, Minnesota, Oregon, Hawaii and South Dakota.
